Buick Service Tips: How to Check Tire Tread Depth
If you want your car to stay in good condition, you need to take care of it. While your vehicle may come with many state-of-the-art features, you can’t forget about the other parts that are instrumental in keeping you safe, such as your tires.
In addition to having the right pressure and alignment, it is vital that your tires have the proper tread depth. If they are too shallow, your traction will be affected, which can put you at risk on the road. This is why our Buick service technicians are here to help you learn how to check your tread depth.
The Penny Test
The easiest way to gauge your tread depth is by finding a penny. Then follow these steps:
- Insert the penny into the tread groove with Lincoln’s head facing down and out.
- See how much of his head is showing. If most of his face is covered, the tread is fine. If you can see most or all of his face, the tread is low.
- Check the treads on all tires and on different parts of each tire.
