GMC Service Tips: How to Jump a Car
When’s the last time you started your car? If you’ve been stuck at home due to the weather or quarantine, you may not have gone near your car in a long time. While this may not seem like a huge deal, you may want to check on your battery once in a while.
You won’t be able to jump a bad battery without a good one, so call a friend or family member and have them park their car next to yours. Make sure this car is turned off before proceeding.
When you locate your cables, pop both hoods. Then, connect one red clip to the positive terminal on the non-working battery (this should be indicated with a plus-sign or the letters “POS”). Afterwards, take the other end of the cable and attach it to the positive terminal on the working battery.
Next, attach the black clip to the negative terminal on the working battery. Take the other end and connect it to an unpainted metal surface on the non-working vehicle, like the strut holding up the hood.
Start the vehicle with the working battery and let it run for a while. After a few minutes have passed, start the other engine. If it starts without issue, disconnect the cables and drive around for 15 to 20 minutes so the battery can recharge.
If you’re worried about your battery, make sure to have it checked. Luckily, if you live in the Little Falls area, you can do that at McGuire Buick GMC. Contact us today to schedule an appointment!
