Keeping up with regular Buick service means addressing fluid intake issues as they arise. Leaks should be addressed promptly, as leaking fluids are a major performance and safety concern. As part of our Buick Service Tips series at McGuire Buick GMC, here’s how to deal with leaking fluid.
Identify Your Fluid Leak
Your Buick vehicle might detect a lack of fluid in a tank and display a warning on your dashboard. However, it’s always a good habit to check your regular parking spot for any wet patches or leaking fluid. If you can, try to identify the exact fluid. Oil will typically be black or brown, while coolant might be pink or green depending on your model.
Refill a Minor Fluid Leak
Leaks come in all shapes and sizes, and not every leak is an immediate critical danger. If there’s only a few drips per hour, for example, you can typically get away with refilling your tank as a temporary fix. You should still schedule a service appointment for a more permanent fix, but in these instances, you can usually drive your car as normal until you can come in for service – just be sure to keep a close eye on the issue.
Fixing a Major Leak
Major fluid leaks are a critical safety problem, and you should not drive any car where a fluid is leaking excessively. In this case, it’s best to call for a professional to look at your vehicle or call a tow truck to bring it to our service center. You don’t want to risk a malfunction on the road because of a large leak.
